The purpose of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Crossover/Re-entry course is to recognize the training of previous Water Safety Instructors and other qualified swimming instructors, and to allow these individuals to participate in a modified instructor course to become current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors.
PREREQUISITES
PARTICIPANTS MUST MEET ALL PREREQUISITES TO TAKE THE COURSE.
Candidates must:

Be at least 16 years old on or before the last day of the Instructor Course

Possess one of the following credentials:

Evidence of former Water Safety Instructor authorization​ within the last 2 years.

Evidence of current external credentials that show the participant has successfully completed a formalized swimming instructor course with one of the following organizations:

Canadian Red Cross​
-
YMCA of the USA
-
National Safety Council/Ellis & Associates, Inc.
-
American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) - Starfish Aquatics Institute
-
American Swim Coaches Association - SwimAmerica
-
American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)
-
Others as determined by the local Preparedness and Health and Safety Services Aquatics or Service Delivery representative.

Successfully complete the Water Safety Instructor Course precourse session.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete the Water Safety Instructor Crossover/Re-enter, candidates must:

Successfully complete the Water Safety Instructor Precourse session.

Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Swimming and Water Safety Program.

Attend and successfully participate in all course sessions.

Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.
CERTIFICATE ISSUED/ VALIDITY PERIOD
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Water Safety Instructor certification which is valid for 2 years.
