
Safety Training for Swim Coaches

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches course is to teach those involved in competitive swimming, including coaches, officials, athletic trainers and aquatic exercise trainers, how to help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for swimmers, prevent accidents and emergencies, and respond to swimmers with illnesses or injuries in water or on land. This program is in a blended learning format.
PREREQUISITES
PARTICIPANTS MUST MEET ALL PREREQUISITES TO TAKE THE COURSE.
Complete all Blended Learning before day one.

Candidates must:

Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.

Completed all online learning for the Safety Training for Swim Coaches class.

Be comfortable in chest–deep water.
LENGTH
The online session of the Safety Training for Swim Coaches takes approximately 2 hours, 30 minutes.
The classroom sessions are designed to be taught in approximately 2 hours, 50 minutes.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete the Safety Training for Swim Coaches course, candidates must:

Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.

Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during scenarios.

Demonstrate competency in all required skills.

Successfully complete the Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only portion of the course.
CERTIFICATE ISSUED/ VALIDITY PERIOD
Safety Training for Swim Coaches is valid for 2 years. The Safety Training for Swim Coaches certificate is only valid when accompanied by a current American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online certificate.

This course meets the Coaches Safety Education requirements for USA Swimming and Y USA certifications.
