The primary purpose of the American Heart Association HeartSaver First Aid, CPR/AED course is to train individuals how to manage illness and injuries until professional help arrives.  This program covers child safety, preventing injuries, medical emergencies, trauma emergencies, environmental emergencies, as well as combination of relieve choking and adult, child, and infant CPR/AED.

PREREQUISITES

NONE. Must have current CPR certification to take AED only course.

PARTICIPANTS MUST MEET ALL PREREQUISITES TO TAKE THE COURSE.

LENGTH

First Aid only: Approximately 4 hours

CPR only: timing below

Adult CPR only: approximately 3 hours

Child/Infant CPR only: approximately 3 hours

Adult/Child/Infant CPR: approximately 5-6 hours

AED only: approximately 1 hour

First Aid/CPR/AED combined course: approximately 6-7 hours

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To successfully complete the HeartSaver First Aid/CPR/AED course, candidate must:

  1. Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.

  2. Demonstrate competency in all required skills.

  3. Pass written test with 84% or higher (no written test for AED-only & First-Aid-only courses)

CERTIFICATE ISSUED/ VALIDITY PERIOD

All certifications above are valid for 2 years.
