The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize and care for patients who are experiencing respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, airway obstruction or opioid overdose. When a patient experiences a life-threatening emergency, healthcare providers need to act swiftly and promptly. The course emphasizes providing high-quality care and integrating pyschomotor skills with critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

PARTICIPANTS MUST MEET ALL PREREQUISITES TO TAKE THE COURSE.
LENGTH
Instructor Led: 4 hours
Blended Learning: Approx. 90 minutes online; 2 hours in-person
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete the Basic Life Support (BLS) course, candidate must:

Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.

Demonstrate competency in all required skills.

Pass the Team Response Testing Scenarios as a team leader.

Successfully pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 84%.
CERTIFICATE ISSUED/ VALIDITY PERIOD
Basic Life Support is valid for 2 years.
