PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Basic Life Support Instructor course is to train candidates to teach the basic-level American Red Cross Basic Life Support course.
PREREQUISITES
Candidates must:

Be at least 16 years old on or before the last day of the Instructor Course.

Possess a current basic-level Basic Life Support or equivalent.

Successfully complete the online Introduction to the Basic Life Support Instructor Course prior to the precourse skills session.

Obtain all instructor and participant materials before entering the first session of the instructor course.
LENGTH
Online session: approximately 2 hours.
In-person session: approximately 5 hours.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete the Basic Life Support Instructor course, candidate must:

Successfully complete the online prerequisite Introduction to the Basic Life Support Instructor course.

Successfully complete the BLS skills session.

Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.

Successfully complete class activities, including the required practice-teaching assignments.

Demonstrate instructor-level skill competency in all skills and scenarios.

Successfully pass final written exams with a minimum grade of 80%.
CERTIFICATE ISSUED AND VALIDITY PERIOD
Basic Life Support Instructor is valid for 2 years.
